Celebrating in the capital
Nicosia is where many of the island’s biggest weddings happen. Guest lists of five hundred or more are common, with ceremonies in the city’s parish churches and receptions in large hotel ballrooms and purpose-built event halls on the edge of town. It is also the business centre of Cyprus, so the calendar fills up with company Christmas parties, product launches, award nights and conferences.
Typical venues
- Hotel ballrooms and event halls. Indoor, air-conditioned, built for very large receptions. They usually have screens or projectors and an AV team, which makes the live photo wall easy to set up.
- Parish churches in the city and the suburbs. Thick walls and crowded aisles mean patchy signal, so it helps that uploads continue where they stopped.
- Old town venues inside the Venetian walls: restored mansions, courtyards and restaurants with stone arches, good for smaller weddings and private parties.
- Village venues in the Nicosia district, with gardens and halls that host big family celebrations.
- Conference centres and office spaces for corporate events and exhibitions.
Tips for Nicosia events
- Plan for scale. A wedding of several hundred guests will use more than 400 uploads. Pro gives you unlimited uploads.
- Ask the AV team early. Ballrooms often have projectors and big screens. Ask for an HDMI input and a laptop spot for the wall, and test it during the setup.
- Two locations, one album. The church and the reception are usually in different places. Put QR codes at both, and set the event start time to the ceremony.
- Summer heat. From June to September, daytime events move indoors and evening receptions start late. Plan the wall for after dinner, when the dancing starts.
- Winter season. Nicosia has a busy indoor season from October to April, with company parties in December. The wall works well in a dark ballroom.
